That sounds like a drill that would bring success. Thank you for sharing that with us. I like to say the first thing you need when you step in the box is your confident mental state, the next thing you need are your eyes. Strengthen both of those and you give yourself a better opportunity to strengthen everything else.

i love the video above on Barry. a lot of people dont like him, but he was a pure hitter. one of the drills i do with my kids is because of him. he said in an interview once, the reason it hits so good is because he actually can see the grip in the pitchers hand. i have a drill that i use to help train the kids eyes just for that. i start about 5 feet from the plate, kids have no bat in hand, i go thru my series of different pitches - slow and mechanical motion as to let the kids SEE everything. i actually throw a few pitches to a catcher. i then back up another 5 feet, etc... until i am at normal distance and standing on the rubber. once i am at full mound to plate distance, the kids have to yell the pitch that is coming BEFORE it crosses the hitting zone(no strike zone). works very well. my 10u son has hit .600+ for two straight years.

So my son,CB, was assessing to move up to Bronco this Spring Season. Technically, he would be a 2nd year Mustang player. He was a bit nervous due to the fact that not only were all of the Bronco managers watching, but our Head Umpire Jim Studley, Neil Jameson & Jared were on hand as outside observers to assess their abilities. Fielding, his nerves showed.....better in the outfield as he worked thru it......his turn @ bat comes next........I had just had him read Caleb's blog of the "Yes,Yes, Yes @ the plate".......1st pitch is thrown.......he swings......it's going, going, going.....GONE! OTF. .....not bad for a just 10 year old. ....he was totally stoked! He's MY heavy hitter~ what can i say? Couldn't tell you what he swung at ( Jared, help me out here) but that's my boy!

You should be ready to hit when your in the batters box, that includes an 0-0 count. From all the stats I have seen a hitter's batting average will drop about 200 points when they take the first pitch for a strike.
When you get in that box it's YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!

I have a question. As a pitcher, my typical mentality is to get strike one. To all you hitters out there, what are you thinking in a 0-0 count?
